Preview: Magrette Leoncino

New Zealand microbrand Magrette, has built quite a loyal following these past few years by making attractive, affordable watches, and delivering them with an extra dose of outstanding customer service.  Your very own Time Bum is among these them. My Regattare Bronze and PVD Moana Pacific Chronograph both hold special places in my collection.

Magrette has typically gone for large, 44mm bowl shaped cases, reminiscent of the Panerai 1950, but it seems they are ready to break that mold with the announcement of the Leoncino (Little Lion).  The new watch features a sporty 42mm barrel case with a distinctly 1960’s style.

The dial will be familiar to Magrette fans with its 12/03/06/09 layout, but closer inspection reveals a sandwich dial with cutouts for the remaining markers. C3 Super Luminova will be used on the dial and hands. The crystal is double domed sapphire. The display case back will be DLC with anti finger-print coating and laser etched Magrette text. Timekeeping duties are entrusted to the Miyota 9015 automatic. Black and tan leather straps and a new signature watch case complete the package.

The Leoncino is expected to arrive in November.  Only 667 will be made. You can view more drawings here or pre-order here.  The price is $625 plus $30 international shipping.
