Timex x Todd Snyder Blackjack

You can always count on Timex for a fun, stylish watch. Recently, they upped the ante with their Timex x Todd Snyder collaborations. There are three watches in the collection, each inspired by vintage Timex designs and available exclusively at Todd Snyder New York and ToddSnyder.com. Timex gave me the latest release, the Blackjack, for this review.

Snyder calls the watch “an homage to the stylish drivers of Formula One in the 1960’s and 70’s” and indeed, its bold graphics and wheels within wheels dial evoke a racy feel. Like the other watches in the line, the Blackjack’s dial comes from the Timex archives, in this case, the blue/white/black Sprite from the early 1970’s (see this page from Alan’s Vintage Watches and scroll about half way down for a look). The Blackjack’s hands are broader than the original, but otherwise all of the dial’s retro goodness remains intact.

While the dial saw little change, the case got a thoroughly modern makeover, growing larger and chunkier with a brushed PVD black finish. Fortunately, it did not grow too large. The Blackjack is 40mm wide, 48mm long, and just under 11mm thick, giving it a sporty presence while maintaining its classic proportions. The lugs are long and tapered. A 20mm black nylon NATO with matching hardware completes the package.

Lumed hands aid nighttime visibility, but there is no other luminant on the dial. Fans of Indiglo will be disappointed as that feature is absent on this watch.

Timex offers no information about the movement except that it is quartz. As a watch nerd, I find that a bit frustrating, but this watch is more about style than mechanical wizardry. It hides behind a snap-in case back sealed for a very practical 50m water resistance.

I found the Blackjack to be an excellent fit, sitting neatly within the confines of my 6.5″ wrist. The nylon strap is soft and pliable, and I was able to tuck the excess tail back through the loops without creating an unsightly bulge.

The Timex x Todd Snyder Blackjacks sells for $138 on ToddSnyder.com and you can get 15% off simply by signing up. For more information or to order your own, see ToddSnyder.com. ⬩
