Mathey-Tissot x Hemel

Mathey-Tissot x Hemel Hemel has once again expanded its excellent line of aviation chronographs, this time in collaboration with Mathey-Tissot. Drawing upon the iconic Type 20, the brands have created Mathey-Tissot x Hemel limited edition.

Since 1886, Geneva’s Mathey-Tissot has made watches under its own brand and as a direct supplier and manufacturer for other high-end Swiss companies. Indeed, Mathey-Tissot was one of the brands that originally produced the flyback Type 20 for the French Air Force in 1954. Those vintage pieces are quite desirable today. The Swiss-made Mathey Tissot x Hemel Type 20 collaboration draws upon this mid-century marvel and delivers it as a durable and accessible piece suitable for everyday wear.

The watch is powered by a hand-winding Sellita SW510MBHb with a 63-hour power reserve, 23 jewels, and a 28.8k bph vibration rate. Its cam-operated, bi-compax design provides smooth winding and a satisfying mechanical feel to the buttons.  Its 38.5mm polished stainless steel case is a faithful recreation of Mathey-Tissot’s original Type 20. It features a double-domed, sapphire-coated K1 mineral crystal, SuperLuminova, and is water resistant to 50m.

The watch comes in a collectible box with a two-piece leather strap and a bund, both handmade in Italy. This mechanical model is available now for $1,799.99.  More frugal customers can expect a Seiko VK64 MechaQuartz version soon.
