Preview: Rossling & Co. 36mm Ultra Slim

The Time Bum has reviewed Rossling & Co. quartz and automatic watches before and thoroughly enjoyed them. Their clean dials and polished cases really hit the sweet spot for a modern dress watch. In keeping with current fashion, the existing models have 40mm cases, which makes them a mid-sized men’s watch or a large for women’s watch. Starting today on Kickstarter, they are expanding the line with a new Ultra Slim Collection, a 36mm quartz dress watch with 1960’s styling cues.

Like the 40mm quartz, the new watch is powered by a Swiss Ronda Slimtech 1069. The familiar Rossling dial remains but feuille hands replace the slim batons of previous models. It is available in the classic white with blue hands, or a lovely sun-ray blue with polished hands. Both dials are available in steel or rose gold finished cases. The case proportions have changed a bit as well. The new, smaller watch is has a thicker polished bezel, brushed sides, and an 18mm strap. The lugs are still drilled but are broader and tapered. A domed crystal raises the height a still svelte 7.5mm — only 0.5mm over its larger quartz stablemate. Together, these small changes give it a vintage look that perfectly complements the dial’s Bauhaus aesthetic.

The new watch also has new strap options: black or brown leather, or a choice of beige, teal, or fuscia tweed. The availability of bright colors hints at the watches’ unisex nature. Certainly, 36mm is an excellent size for a woman’s watch, but I hope men will give it a shot too. Big watches have their place, but for those of us with small wrists, 36mm is a very comfortable size. Add a neatly tailored crocodile print or smooth calf strap and it will be ready for formal dress events too.

The Rossling & Co. 36mm quartz starts at just $119 for the first 500 units and increases to $129 after that. Prices include shipping to the US. This is an excellent price for a very attractive and thoroughly sensible watch. You can order yours here
